Value Co-Creation in Engineering Service Innovation: Resources and Capabilities Perspectives

Purpose: This research focuses on firm resources and capabilities used for value co-creation in service innovation. Specifically, I investigated how innovation is created an in-ternational engineering company. The aim of this article to reveal what capa-bilities are employed by a provider the project they vary particular stages project. Methodology: based qualitative methodology multi-case study strate-gy. Focus group discussion with senior managers semi-structured interviews studied international company were as concrete data gather-ing methods. Data analysis was conducted using content method. Findings: revealed eight activities accomplished engi-neering client during follows: co-identification client’s problem, co-evaluation ideas, co-defining requirements, co-analysis environment, co-design, co-testing, co-adoption, co-production, co-activities after launch. These diffused different demand range resources: expert knowledge, diagnostic, communication skills, trust, experience, technological equipment, human resources. Moreover, require diverse capabilities: relational, innovative, analytical, negotiation, knowledge absorptive, planning, organizational flexibility, cross-cultural. intensity variety mentioned differ relying activity. Expert skills resources, relational innovative empha-sized researchers most often. We hope these findings will represent step toward more coherent resource-based view (RBV) theories. Implications: involved only one Lithuanian company, so context may influence findings. Another limitation related small number cases participants.
